Reiki is a form of energetic healing. It came from Japan, and it is over 150 years old. Reiki is not associated with any one religion. People use Reiki for pain management, to reduce stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression and many other conditions.
In a Reiki session, the client stays fully clothed and lies comfortably on the massage table. The therapist will place her hands just above or on the client's body. The therapist allows energy to flow the her into the client, and the energy naturally flows to where it's needed most.
Clients experience sensations of heat, cold, and tingling/electricity. It is also very common for clients to experience waves of emotions and a deep feeling of peace and contentment. Many clients drift into a state of semi-consciousness, as if meditating. Some even fall asleep!
During the session, the therapist may also utilize other tools to assist in the healing process. This may include the drum, various crystals, rattles, etc. Before the session, the therapist will walk the client through everything she will do and answer any and all questions.
When the session is complete, the therapist will gently assist the client to sit up. If she has perceived any information during the session, she will share it during this time.
